Abstract: The fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication system will require the multi-beam base station. By taking into account millimeter wave use, any antenna types such as an array, reflector and dielectric lens antennas are possible for a base station application.
Base station antennas are available in different shapes and sizes and can be either omnidirectional antennas or directional antennas. The operating frequency, coverage area, range, and other performance parameters can vary depending on the base station antenna that is chosen for a specific network.
In rural or less-populated areas, cellular base stations may use several omnidirectional antennas, 3 to 5 m in length, which can be located from 30 to 100 m above the ground. An omnidirectional antenna radiates uniformly in all directions of the horizontal plane.
Omnidirectional fiberglass base station antennas transmit and receive signals equally in all directions. They are used in networks where the consumers can be located in any direction in a circular area around the antenna.
These types of objects are an inevitability since they serve the purpose of providing signal transfer for data and voice between mobile mobiles. The idea of base stations is anchored in their function to provide coverage, capacity, and connectivity, hence allowing for extending the working capabilities of mobile phones and other radio gear.
This is not always possible since the base station typically has a higher output power than the mobile station. Also, the mobile station antenna is typically on the street at a height of 1 to 2 m compared to the base station antenna height of 50 to 60 m.
