Some of Bahrain’s key solar initiatives include: planning for a solar farm project on the Askar landfill, delivering 100 megawatts of renewable power; a 50-megawatt initiative to install solar panels on the roofs of hundreds of government-owned buildings, and the potential installation of “floating solar” technologies to be deployed for power generation in Bahrain’s territorial waters in order to address the problem of land scarcity for larger solar farms. Led by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and co-financed by Australia, the European Union, the Second Danish Cooperation Fund for Renewable Energy and Efficiency for Rural Areas, and the Global Climate Facility, OIREP’s focus was installation of solar energy capabilities to nine outer islands of Tonga, with the aim of increasing the reliability, efficiency and affordability of electricity on these islands. The project will install climate-adapted floating solar photovoltaic (FPV), a battery energy storage system (BESS), a transmission and distribution network, productive uses of energy (PUE), such as electric vehicles (EVs) including an e-boat for the operation and maintenance of the FPV system, EV charging stations, electric artificial reefs and wave breakers for coastal protection, and capacity building, including on disaster preparedness. This article will introduce in detail how to design an energy storage cabinet device, and focus on how to integrate key components such as PCS (power conversion system), EMS (energy management system), lithium battery, BMS (battery management system), STS (static transfer switch), PCC (electrical connection control) and MPPT (maximum power point tracking) to ensure efficient, safe and reliable operation of the system.
