Superconducting magnetic energy storage power station
Superconducting energy storage systems utilize superconducting magnets to convert electrical energy into electromagnetic energy for storage once charged via the converter from the grid, magnetic fields form within each coil that is then utilized by superconductors as magnets and returned through power converters for use elsewhere when required – like back into grid power or loads via power converters that manage the exchange. Port Louis Energy Storage Power Station Project
The project will provide four medium speed, four stroke, heavy fuel oil (HFO) driven generators with a capacity of 15 MW each; a power station building; two 1000 cubic metre tanks for the storage of HFO; and one 132 Kv substation for connection of the power plant to the existing electricity grid belonging to the Central Electricity Board (CEB), the State owned electricity utility in Mauritius.
